Aquatech designs SWRO system for detergent manufacturer in India
A
quatech recently completed a project for Nirma, a multi-sector fast-moving consumer goods brand based in India. Nirma Ltd manufactures products that include detergents, cosmetics, soaps, salt and soda ash. It is one of the largest selling detergent brands in the country. The facility is located in Gujarat, a water-scarce region in western India. When Nirma expanded its facility, it had an increased requirement for fresh water. It selected Aquatech to design and supply a new sea-water reverse osmosis (SWRO) system, with a capacity of 25 million litres (6 604 301 gallons) per day. Aquatech says that it was chosen because of its advanced technology, with a focus on pretreatment, energy optimisation and overall water recovery. After studying the feed-water quality and issues with the existing operation, the company proposed the use of its patented LoWatt technology for the new SWRO plant. This process will reduce energy consumption for the facility and deliver water at a low cost to Nirma. For further information, visit: https://aquatech.com

Pork producer invests in membrane-based filtration plant
S
ica des Sables, part of the Coopérative des Producteurs de Porc de la Réunion (CPPR) group – producers of pork on La Réunion – recently invested in a membrane-based filtration unit developed and built by Orelis Environnement. This unit, integrated into a container, was designed to meet the new conditions imposed by the local municipality and reduce the load of effluents discharged into the communal sewage system. Installed downstream of the site’s wastewater treatment plant, the filtration unit comprises ultrafiltration (UF) and reverse osmosis (RO) components, the details of which are summarsied below.

Sulzer acquires JWC Environmental
S
ulzer Ltd, which specialises in pumps, services for rotating equipment, and separation, mixing and application technology, has acquired JWC Environmental Llc (JWC). JWC provides highly engineered, missioncritical solids reduction and removal products, such as grinders, screens and dissolved air flotation system for municipal, industrial and commercial wastewater applications. According to Sulzer, this transaction enables it to grow its wastewater treatment offering through complementary equipment, and improve its access to the municipal and industrial wastewater market in North America. Furthermore, Sulzer says that it intends to strongly pursue and support JWC’s geographic expansion into markets in EMEA and Asia. Significant sales synergies are expected through growth in JWC’s markets outside North America. JWC will operate as part of Sulzer’s Pumps Equipment division. The enterprise value of US$215 million, adjusted for an acquired tax asset, corresponds to a multiple of approximately ten times earnings for 2018 before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation, says Sulzer. JWC’s headquarters are based in Santa Ana, California, USA. It employs around 230 people. For further information, visit: www.sulzer.com & www.jwce.com
• UF equipment, which uses KLEANSEP ceramic membranes, with a flow rate of 50 m3/day (9.2 gpm). The purified water at the outlet is used for cleaning and feeding the gas scrubber. • RO equipment, based on PERSEP polymeric membranes, with a flow rate of 20 m3/day (3.7 gpm). The water at the outlet is used to feed a cooling tower and the steam boilers. ‘The recycling of water and liquid resource is a key element of our growth strategy in the field of membrane technologies, explained François Garcia, CEO, Orelis Environnement. ‘Only an integrated offer of products and services along the entire value chain makes it possible to respond optimally to the specific needs of each customer and each industrial sector.’ A thermal oxidation vapour treatment system complements the plant, to reduce the current volume of effluents produced. The complete installation will achieve the goal of zero discharge of dirty liquid effluents into the sewage system, says the company. For further information, visit: www.orelis-environnement.com
