International Society for Computational Methods in Engineering
Bulletin No. 24 CADMO 86 16-19 September 1986 News of an international conference on computer-aided design, manufacture and operation in the marine and offshore industries, to be held in Washington DC, USA, next year. Conference Chairmen are ISCME Vice-President, George Keramidas of Naval Research Laboratories, Washington, and ISCME Secretary, Carlos Brebbia, of the Department of Civil Engineering, Southampton University, UK. The conference aims to show how ship designers, constructors and operators of offshore structures can benefit from the latest developments in computer applications and to promote general awareness of the wider applications of computer techniques in the methodologies of design, manufacture and operation. For further enquiries write to Wessex Institute of Technology, 125 High Street, Southampton SO 1 0AA, UK. COMPLETED CAD COURSE
On 8 February 1985 Computational Mechanics' Computer Education Centre was honoured with visits from Mr Christopher Chope, Member of Parliament for Southampton Itchen, and Mrs Irene Candy, Mayor of Southampton. The occasion was the graduation ceremony for 14 trainees who had successfully completed a 13-week course in CAD. During the course the trainees had got to grips with the whole CAD process, from modelling through pre- and postprocessing to drafting and CAM interfaces. Included in the course were the use of a variety of analytical and modelling codes used by engineers in industry. Early in the day Mr Chope had been shown a demonstration of the trainees' abilities to use the BEASY and PATRAN codes and was informed of the company's progress and plans for expansion. This was followed by a short presenta-

MECOM 85 15-18 October 1985 MECOM 85 - the 6th Latin-American Conference on Computational Methods for Engineering and 1st Argentine Conference on Computational Mechanics, takes place in Paran~-Santa Fe, Argentina, on 15-18 October 1985. The main objective of MECOM 85 is to consolidate the recent advances in the application of numerical techniques to solve engineering problems. It is expected that the conference will provide a forum for numerical analysts to present new numerical methods and applications, and for experimentalists to present comparisons between measured quantities and calculated values using standard numerical techniques. The subject matter will be of interest to both researchers and industries. For further information contact Dr S. R. Idelsohn, INTEC, Guemes 3450, 3000 Santa Fe, Argentina.
EI. I iT 7th International Conference on Boundary Element Methods in Engineering 24-27 September 1985 Italy is the venue of the 7th International Conference on Boundary Element Methods in Engineering, which will take place next year (24-27 September 1985) in the beautiful surroundings of Lake Como. The 7th Conference will be held at the Villa Olmo Conference Centre, a neooclassical 18th century building on the shores of the lake. Apart from ISCME, other sponsors of the Conference are WIT (The Wessex Institute for Technology), Technical University (Politecnico) of Milan, AIMETA (Italian Society for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics), and CMC (Computational Mechanics Centre, Southampton). Fields of applications are numerical techniques and mathematical principles; linear/non-linear structural

8th International Conference on Boundary Element Methods in Engineering 22-25 September 1986 The dates of the 8th International Conference on Boundary Element Methods in Engineering (BEMVIII) are now fixed on 22-25 September 1986. The Conference BE VIII will be held at the National Educational Center in Tokyo annexed to the Japanese Ministry of Education. The Conference is sponsored by JASCOME (Japan Society for Computational Methods in Engineering), ISCME and WIT (Wessex Institute of Technology). Masataka Tanaka (Shinshu University, Japan) and Carlos A. Brebbia (Southampton University, UK) will serve as the Conference Chairmen. Queries about this Conference should be sent to the Conference Chairmen, in particular the Japanese-speaking people are recommended to write to Prof. M. Tanaka at the following address: Professor Masa. Tanaka, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Shinshu University, 500 Wakasato, Nagano 380/Japan. Others can write to: Dr C. Brebbia, Computational Mechanics, Ashurst Lodge, Ashurst, Southampton SO4 2AA, UK.
