It has only one refresh input and, in many systems, this input can be triggered by circuitry already existing within the system, as the device has a built-in refresh multiplexer and refresh address counter. This pin allows the 4816 to be refreshed in three different modes: single cycle, Durst, or in a battery backup application. Inputs to the 4816 are edge triggered and there are separate chip enable and output enable inputs. Four versions of the device are available. The speed of a device is indicated by the suffix 2 to 5 added to the type number, representing access times from 150 ns to 300 ns in 50 ns increments respectively.
