development system. Once satisfied with the result, 2920s can be programmed and will function as a filter with the characteristics specified by the designer. The signal processor applications software/compiler is known as the SPAS-20 and comprises three district sections: filter design, compiler and macro section. The user can define a filter using SPAS-20 simply by specifying the locations of poles and zeroes. The compiler enables the user to implement the filter as a cascaded series of first- and second-order stages. Code can also be generated to compute independent variables, a feature which is useful for propagation and scaling of the digital signal between stages.
From poly comes FORTH pico PicoFORTH, a subset of polyFORTH, is available for 1802 (on disc or PROM) and 8080 microprocessors. Designed for interactive evaluation, picoFORTH includes all the essentials for programming, debugging, and testing a single-task application. This complete operating system features the polyFORTH assembler, compiler, text interpreted, editor, disc utilities,
and basic documentation. PicoFORTH can be upgraded at any time, either for a single purpose (with one or more of three packages: Source, Target Compiler, or Multitasker) or to full polyFORTH. A file management option package is also available. Price is ~8495. (FORTH, Inc., 2309 Pacific Coast H/]qhwuy, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254, USA. l`e/: (213) 3 72 8493)

Celdis stock Mostek 4 8 1 6 Celdis are stocking the Mostek high speed 2k x 8 pseudostatic RAM, 4816. While being dynamic in internal design, it appears much like a static RAM to the system designer. 128 refresh cycles are required every 2ms. It has only one refresh input and, in many systems, this input can be triggered by circuitry already existing within the system, as the device has a built-in refresh multiplexer and refresh address counter. This pin allows the 4816 to be refreshed in three different modes: single cycle, Durst, or in a battery backup application. Inputs to the 4816 are edge triggered and there are separate chip enable and output enable inputs. Four versions of the device are available. The speed of a device is indicated by the suffix 2 to 5 added to the type number, representing access times from 150 ns to 300 ns in 50 ns increments respectively. Hew/ett-Packard's double-density flexible disc memory, 9895A provides up to 2.36 Mbyte o f storage. Each o f the two drives reads double-sided, double-density format on HP-qua/ified flexible discs. A built-in controller enables the drive to recogni/e whether a disc has been recorded on one or two sides. This a/lows sing/e-sided discs written by the eadier 9885M or 9885S disc memories to be read, enabling 9885 owners to convert to the new drive. The controller also a/lows exchange o / d a t a with some other systems which use the IBM 3 740 sing/e-sided, sing/e-density format, provided additional software exists on the host ~omputer. Up to 4. 72 Mbyte of storage is obtainable through an optional dual-drive s/ave unit without controflers, one o f several options. 9895A ~an a/so be ordered with one 1.18 Mbyte drive," a// options can be upgraded to tuff 9895A capability later it the user desires. There are sell:test capabilities accessible to the host controller. A hardware serf-test is initiated and reported at power-up. Read/write tests can be initiated manually by the operator or remotely through HP-IB using a host ~omputer. 9895A dual drive with controller costs £3810, single drive without controller is £2784 and dual-drive s/ave without controller is £3223.
