Colfax wins major contract in Brunei
ITT to acquire HVAC specialist Laing
Colfax Corporation, provider of fluid handling solutions for critical applications, has secured a €1 million sale of pumping systems to Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP). The package includes four Houttuin twin-screw pumps and five VFD control panels for the processing of oily water at BSP’s Seria Crude Oil Terminal (SCOT) oil exporting facility.
to expand supply,” said Michael K. Dwyer, senior vice-president and general manager of Colfax Asia Pacific. Colfax attributes the successful sale to its product’s reputation, competitive price and the organisation’s technical expertise. Colfax says that its ability to deliver on a tight schedule was also of key importance. The pumps will arrive on site by August and plant operations start at the end of 2009. Colfax has a ten year presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
ITT Corporation has signed a defin-itive agreement to acquire Laing GmbH of Germany, a privately held producer of energyefficient circulator pumps primarily used in residential and commercial plumb-ing and heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Once completed, ITT says that the acquisition will significantly broaden its offering and will reflect the company’s continued strategic focus on satisfying the market’s growing

World’s largest dry vacuum pump system Vacuum technology company Edwards is to supply China’s Chong Qing Steel Group Co. with the world’s largest dry mechanical vacuum pumping system. The total value of the contract is in excess of US$8 million. When installed, the system will be capable of pumping 1,000,000 m3/h at 0.67 mbar, and will degas 230 tonne quantities of liquid steel in each batch. It will be the world’s first application of dry vacuum pumps to a Ruhrstahl Heraeus (RH) steel degassing process. According to Edwards, the dry pumping system provides Chong Qing Steel with potential energy cost savings of
more than 90% over traditional steam ejector systems. Other benefits include a lower environmental impact through reducing water effluent and CO2 emissions, optimised steel quality due to no moisture contamination and consistent performance, and increased safety through removing the need for high pressure steam and high temperature fuel and burner systems. Edwards will supply 18 steel degassing ‘supermodules’, each comprising twin 40,000 m3/h mechanical boosters backed by a common 8,000 m3/h booster and one of the latest generation IDX1300 dry screw pumps. www.edwardsvacuum.com
