Shell plans 7th lubricants blending plant in China

S

hell is to build a new, state-ofthe-art lubricants blending plant in Nangang, Tianjin, Beijing, China. The plant, which will have an initial capacity of 300 million litres per year, will supply a range of lubricant products to Northern China. Shell already has six blending plants on the Chinese mainland.

UÊÊi>˜Ü…ˆiÊ>VœLÃʈÃÊ̜ʫÀœÛˆ`iÊ engineering services to Chilean copper producer CODELCO for an anticipated 200 000 metric tons per day copper mine in Chile. The contract covers Phase II of the Radomiro Tomic (RT) sulfides mine and the new and independent concentrator facility. The conventional concentrator plant is expected to have two 40-foot SAG (semi-autogenous grinding) mills and four conventional ball mills, a 160km desalinated water pipeline; booster stations, a desalination plant, a thickened tailings management facility, a 270km concentrate transport pipeline and power infrastructure.

KBR awarded FEED for FPSO offshore Angola

BR has secured a FEED contract to perform work for the topsides and hull associated with a newbuild, double-sided, single-bottom hull Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel located offshore Angola. KBR’s scope covers the permanently moored FPSO using a spread mooring system. The topsides will use a single train designed to process 80 000 barrels of oil per day and 90 million standard cubic feet per day at an export pressure of 3500 psi. The water injection facilities will be designed to inject up to 130 000 barrels of water per day.

acobs Engineering Group Inc has been selected by Midway Gold Corp for front-end engineering of infrastructure related to the Pan Mine Project in White Pine County, Nevada, USA. Jacobs’ scope of work involves delivering front-end engineering services for the mine infrastructure including buildings, roads, electrical and water supply at Midway’s first producing gold mine. The Pan Project is an oxidized, Carlin-style gold deposit mineable by shallow open pit methods and treatable by heap leaching. 4

KBR to project manage Australian power plant build

BR has won a project management services contract for the construction of the 242 MW gas-fired Diamantina Power Station in northwest Queensland, Australia. The station will provide power to Xstrata’s MIM copper mine. KBR’s services include project management, safety, cost, schedule and site construction oversight of the power station’s engineering, procurement and construction contractors. Construction should be completed by mid-2014.

PCL/B&V JV to design and construct Kentucky power plant

PCL Industrial Construction Co (PCL) and Black & Veatch joint venture has been awarded a contract by Louisville Gas & Electric Co (LG&E) and Kentucky Utilities Co (KU) to design and build a new natural gas-fuelled power plant in Louisville, Kentucky. Bluegrass Power Constructors will provide full engineering, procurement and construction services for the new Cane Run power plant. Overland Contracting

Inc (OCI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Black & Veatch, will deliver engineering, electrical construction and startup services, while PCL will provide construction services. The new 660 MW Cane Run Unit 7 combined cycle plant will replace older, coalfired units that will be retired by 2016.

Fluor wins Virginia gas-fired station contract

luor Corp has received an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract from Dominion Virginia Power for a new combinedcycle, natural gas-fired power station in Brunswick County, Virginia, USA. The 1300 MW Brunswick County Power Station is expected to be completed by May 2016 and will produce enough electricity to power more than 325 000 homes. Fluor will design the plant at its engineering office in Charlotte, North Carolina.

B&W JV selected for boiler project in Vietnam

abcock & Wilcox Beijing Co Ltd (BWBC) has been awarded a contract worth more than US$300 million to design and manufacture two coal-fired boilers, boiler auxiliaries and two wet flue gas desulfurization (FGD) units for PetroVietnam’s Thai Binh II power plant in Vietnam. South Korean engineering and construction firm Daelim Industrial Co Ltd, the project’s lead contractor, selected BWBC to engineer and manufacture the two 600 MW, subcritical downshot boilers according to a B&W design. B&W licencee Zhejiang Tiandi Environmental Protection Engineering Co Ltd will supply both wet FGD units. Engineering is currently underway at BWBC’s facility in Beijing. Both units are scheduled to be completed and operational in 2016.
