A letter was reported from thf H o n o r a r y Secret a r y of the T u b e r c u l o s i s Group r e m i n d i n g the S e c r e t a r y of the N o r t h e r n Branch t h a t a resolution similar to t h a t put forward by the Branch to tim G r o u p ( P r i v a t e C o n s u l t a t i o n Fees for Tuberculosis Medical Officers) was being raised by the Derbyshire Division of the B.M.A. at the Annual Representative M e e t i n g of the B . M . A . , at Bath. President.--Dr. \V. H. Dickinson was unanimously re-elected as P r e s i d e n t for 1925-1926, and Dr. R o d e r i c k M a c L e o d as Vice-President. Dr. H. K e r r was re-elected H o n o r a r y S e c r e t a r y and T r e a s u r e r , and R e p r e s e n t a t i v e of the Branch on the Council of the Society. The m e m b e r s were entertained to lunch in the club house by Dr. J. \V. Smith, ex-Medical Officer of Health, R y t o n - o n - T y n e U.D.C. After the loyal toast, the President p r o p o s e d tile health of Dr. J. \~r. Smith, and t h a n k e d him on behalf of the nmmbers for his hospitality, and c o n g r a t u l a t e d him on his continued e n t h u s i a s m for the public health service. Dr. Smith replied, and referred to the g r e a t g r o w t h of the Branch, and to the fact that its individuals, while active m e m b e r s of the Society, were equally keen and s t r o n g s u p p o r t e r s of the B . M . A . , which was as it should be. H e also referred to the u r g e n t necessity, as instanced by recent cases, for ever} health officer to become a m e m b e r of a Defence Association. After lunch, m e m b e r s took part in a golf sweepstake, which was won by Dr. T. E u s t a c e Hill with a net score of 75 (gross 84). The day as usual was t h o r o u g h l y enjoyable.

On the occasion of the Annual Meeting, on F r i d a y , June 12th, 1925, m e m b e r s of this Branch p a i d a visit to Congleton by c h a r - a - b a n c (kindly provided by the President). T h e p a r t y left Manchester Central S t a t i o n about :9.30 p.m., a r r i v i n g at C o n g l e t o n a b o u t a, p.m. M e m b e r s assembled at the Q u e e n ' s H e a d Hotel, near the station. A letter was read from the Executive Secretary, f o r w a r d i n g resolutions for the c o n s i d e r a t i o n of the Branch, and after discussion it was resolved that the N . \ V . Branch s u p p o r t the following : - (a)

I. T h a t the e x i s t i n g legal powers for ensuring a pure, clean milk supply are inadequate, even if full}, enforced. Any further postt)onements of the Milk and Dairies (Consolidation) Act, 1915, which comes into force S e p t e m b e r next, will be prejudicial to tile health of the country. 2. T h a t tee T u b e r c u l o s i s O r d e r of 1914 be amended and pnt into force, and w o r k e d by the Public H e a l t h C o m m i t t e e in each area. T h a t in the opinion of this Branch all butchers should be required to provide glass fronts for their shop w i n d o w s . "
Dr. Veltch Clark issued an invitation to tile m e m b e r s p r e s e n t to visit, on F r i d a y , June 19th, tile Daily Dispatch Pure F o o d Exhibition, at present b e i n g held in Manchester. The report of tile Non. S e c r e t a r y was s u b m i t t e d and adopted. T h e following officers were elected for the Session 1925-2(;: President, Dr. R. Veitch C l a r k ; Hon. T r e a s u r e r , Dr. H. H. I. H i t c h o n ; Hon. S e c r e t a r y , Dr. G. \V. N. J o s e p h ; Council Repres e n t a t i v e s : Drs. Veltch Clark, J a m e s XVheatley, and the H0n. S e c r e t a r y ; C o m m i t t e e : Drs. J. F e r g u s o n , P a g e t Moffatt, F. T. H. W o o d , J. E. Spence, C. O. S t a l l y b r a s s , t o g e t h e r with ViceP r e s i d e n t s and Officers. A f t e r the business of the m e e t i n g was completed tile members inspected the D a i r y of the Coo p e r a t i v e W h o l e s a l e Society, at Congteton, and saw the various processes in the m a n u f a c t u r e of dried milk. A first-rate tea was a f t e r w a r d s provided for all by the k-lndness of the D i r e c t o r s , of whom Messrs. P a r k and B r a d s h a w were present. A hearty vote of t h a n k s , on the proposition of the President, seconded by Dr. Veitch Clark, was accorded the D i r e c t o r s for their hospitality. T h e return journey to M a n c h e s t e r was undert a k e n about 6.30 p.m.
