J Ray McDermott wins Vietnamese contract
J
Ray McDermott SA was recently awarded a subcontract by PTSC Mechanical & Construction Co Ltd, to engineer, procure and install certain offshore facilities for the Su Tu Development - Su Tu Den North East project, located offshore Vietnam and operated by Cuu Long Joint Operating Co. Contracts of this nature are typically valued at more than US$90 million. The new development lies four miles northeast of the existing Su Tu Den facilities, and includes the installation of a wellhead platform, several infield pipelines and a composite power/fiber optic submarine cable. The new facilities will tie back to an existing infrastructure in the Su Tu Den and Su Tu Vang fields. Project management, detailed engineering including follow-on engineering, procurement of all pipeline materials, pipe coating, and procurement support to PTSC will be carried out through J Ray’s operations group in Jakarta, Indonesia. Transportation and installation of all structures, pipelines and subsea cable will be performed during two offshore campaigns; the first during the second quarter of 2009 and the second during the second quarter of 2010. Vessels from J Ray’s fleet will install the work offshore.

Alstom to renovate EDF nuclear generators

lstom has signed a framework agreement with EDF, the French utility, for the renovation of 900 MW and 1300 MW generators in its nuclear power plants. The orders from this contract will run for 10 years and will exceed more than 140 million.

Alstom Power Service units in La Courneuve and Belfort, France will provide project management, including conceptual design, parts supply and site work. The first generator rewinds are planned for 2010 at the Belleville and Chooz nuclear power plants. Alstom is a long-standing partner of EDF, and has delivered the entire fleet of turbogenerators installed in its nuclear power plants. The EDF nuclear base consists of 58 nuclear reactors, at 19 different sites, generating 900 MW–1500 MW of electrical power per unit.
UniStar submits application to build nuclear reactor
U
niStar Nuclear Energy, a joint venture of Constellation Energy and EDF Group, has submitted a combined license (COL) application to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for a potential new reactor at Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station in Scriba, New York, USA. The COL application seeks federal regulatory approval for a 1600 MW nuclear plant that can generate electricity for more than one million households. The NRC’s application review process is expected to take 36–42 months.

The plant will be specifically designed to cope with any future higher demand and will be able to produce an extra 3 billion litres of recycled water per year for other industrial requirements. The first stage of construction is due to start in early 2009, when Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies will be responsible for the construction of a water recycling installation which will have a capacity of 20 000m³ per day. Veolia Water will be investing 30 million to finance the project. AquaNet will design, build, own and operate the network comprising two pump stations and three reservoirs connected by 20 km of pipeline.
EIB funds £100mn water upgrade in Wales

he European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending £100 million to Dwr Cymru Welsh Water for a series of water supply and wastewater treatment schemes in Wales. The EIB is supporting the second phase of Welsh Water’s 2005–2010 investment programme which will ensure continued compliance with EU and domestic standards. The project will involve the rehabilitation or construction of a number of wastewater treatment schemes and a comprehensive water mains replacement programme.

eolia Water and AquaNet Sydney Pty Ltd have signed a contract with the Sydney Water Corp for the first private scheme for recycled water to a network of multiple industrial users in Australia. The contract is part of the New South Wales Government’s initiative to reduce demand on Sydney’s drinking water supplies. The 20-year, A$200 million contract is a build, own and operate project for the Rosehill and Camellia Recycled Water Plant in west Sydney. It will produce an annual

preliminary engineering design project at the 770 million-gallonsper-day Wylie Water Treatment Plant Complex operated by the North Texas Municipal Water District in the US. The design will include the addition of ozone technology for drinking water disinfection as well as taste and odour control at the Wylie, Texas complex that serves more than 1.5 million customers.
