public service advertising One of the most effective ways to present an accurate and well-balanced picture of pharmacy and the pharma~ist is through public service advertising -institutional advertising sponsored by firms, publications, associations or other organizations outside the pharmaceutical field. Financial institutions
frequently run advertisements in the local paper or in community magazines or in magazines covering their own fields which provide glimpses of the professions within a community. Chambers of commerce, extolling the advantages of their communities, describe and present pictures of the The Post program for pharmacy is designed to present the pharmacist's professional image to the public. In the 1962 program 12 separate messages were included, each in a white and gold plastic frame (left). Plans are now being made for the 1963 program to dramatize the service of the pharmacist.

people who form these communities. Newspapers and magazines prepare and sponsor advertisements which are run in a spirit of co-operation with a profession. Such public service advertising and co-operation carries more of an impact upon the public than does direct advertising by pharmaceutical organizations It has an air of objectivity that is necessarily lacking in presentations by pharmaceutical or closely allied professions. By working with those who do such public service advertising, pharmacists can provide the public with the story that must be told.
