GRUNDFOS ADDS ALLDOS TO GROWING DOSING AREA Grundfos has acquired the German dosing pump maker Alldos. The deal strengthens Grundfos’s position in the market for dosing pumps - an area Grundfos has been involved in for the last four years. Grundfos will now centre its main dosing pump activities around the newly acquired company. “Apart from the water treatment sector, liquid dosing pumps for the food industry is an important market segment. We have only recently begun working with pumps for the food industry when we purchased another German pump company called Hilge last year, and in the long run we expect to be able to create synergies between these two areas,” said Grundfos executive vice president Søren Ø Sørensen. Alldos owner Wolfgang Eichler has now retired as chairman of the board, with Grundfos’s Sørensen taking up the post. Alldos management remains unchanged with Ewald Diesslin continuing as CEO. The Grundfos director of the dosing area, Jes Munk Hansen, will join Alldos’s management team. Alldos has 36 years of experience in dosing, a large R&D department, and a wellestablished co-operation with the College of Engineering in Karlsruhe. Alldos also develops and manufactures sensors and control systems for use with dosing pumps. The group has an annual turnover of 40 million, making it one of Grundfos’s largest acquisitions to date. Alldos has 280 employees the majority of whom work in Pfinztal near Karlsruhe in Germany. The company has its administrative headquarters in Switzerland.

DOVER ACQUIRES ALMATEC Dover Resources has completed the acquisition of Almatec GmbH, the German manufacturer of air operated double diaphragm pumps. Düsseldorf-based Almatec will become a subsidiary of Wilden Pump and Engineering LLC. “With virtually no product or distribution overlap, our two companies can leverage individual strengths for optimum growth and efficiency,” said John Allen, president & COO of Wilden Pump. “Almatec’s location is ideal to take advantage of global sourcing in Eastern Europe, while new markets such as Biopharmaceutical will favour Almatec’s premium product features,” added Bruce Bartells, Wilden Pump CEO.
ITT RESOLVES FRANKLIN ELECTRIC LAWSUIT Franklin Electric Co Inc has reached a settlement in litigation filed by ITT Water Technology Inc which challenged Franklin’s plans to distribute 4-inch submersible motor products directly to distributors in the USA and Canada as well as Franklin’s announced price changes on its 4-inch motors (see Pump Industry Analyst, October 2004). Under the terms of the settlement, ITT will purchase the majority of its 4-inch submersible electric motors in the USA and Canada in the 1/3 through 2hp size ratings from Franklin to 31 December 2006. Franklin has agreed, for this same time period, to supply these products to ITT. The settlement agreement contains no limitation on the sale of any other Franklin products to distributors,
including assembled pump motor units sold through its newly acquired Franklin Pump Systems business unit (see Pump Industry Analyst, October 2004). A similar settlement was reached in November last year with Pentair Pump Group and Sta-Rite Industries (see Pump Industry Analyst, November 2004).
USFILTER AND WILO/EMU END SALES RELATIONSHIP Wilo AG and USFilter Corp have terminated their agreement to market Wilo’s EMU line of pumps and mixers in North America through USFilter sales channels, effective 31 December 2004. The USFilter/EMU relationship goes back more than 25 years. The agreement gave USFilter the right to exclusively market EMU products in the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico. Wilo acquired EMU in January 2003 (see Pump Industry Analyst, January 2003). “Wilo sells primarily through its own subsidiaries worldwide. The decision to end the long-standing relationship with USFilter was driven by our ongoing business strategy to have a uniform sales distribution for the Wilo and EMU products globally,” explained Terry Rouse, CEO of Wilo-EMU LLC. “We respect the decision of Wilo-EMU and have enjoyed working with them closely through the years. EMU has great quality submersible pumps and mixers and we will continue to use their products in our systems when applicable,” said Robert Tatum, general manager, USFilter. EMU customers in North America will now be supported by Wilo-EMU USA based in Thomasville, Georgia.
