Nominations for Norton M. Ross Award for Excellence in Clinical Research This award has been created to recognize a person who has made significant contributions in clinical investigations that have advanced the diagnosis, treatment, and/or prevention of craniofacialoral-dental diseases as well as outstanding research accomplishments in other areas. Selection will be based on (1) the scope of the nominee's research with special emphasis on its impact on clinical dentistry and (2) publications in refereed journals. Nomination letters describing the nominee's accomplishments in the context of the objectives of this award and a curriculum vitae with a list of publications should be submitted. The letter(s) should be explicit in describing the impact of the nominee's research on clinical dentistry.
The awardee will receive a $5,000 cash prize and a plaque. The award, presented annually at a dinner for the Board of Trustees on a date preceding the annual session, will be made in October 1998 in San Francisco. The award is sponsored by the American Dental Association (ADA) through its Health Foundation with the support of Wamer Lambert Company. This award honors the memory of Dr. Norton M. Ross, a dentist and pharmacologist whose work contributed significantly to the fields of oral medicine and dental clinical research. Recipients of the Norton M. Ross Award for Excellence in Clinical Research to date comprise a group of distinguished clinical investigators. The diversity of disciplines represented and
the outstanding contributions to clinical research by each awardee truly reflect the objectives of the award, thereby honoring the memory of Dr. Ross, who spent the majority of his professional career in academic and research positions. One of his major accomplishments was to elevate clinical research to a higher level of scientific standards, with a positive impact on the oral health of the public.
