Arthur C. Reed honored at SWSO annual meeting Arthur C. Reed of Houston, Texas, is the 1994 recipient of the Martin E. Dewey Memorial Award, the highest honor of the Southwestern Society of Orthodontists (SWSO). The award is presented each year to recognize an orthodontist who had made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the specialty of orthodontics, especially in the areas of education, practice, and research. Established in 1953, the award honors the memory of Dr. Martin E. Dewey (1881-1933), pioneer orthodontist and first editor of the AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ORTHODONTICS. Dr. Reed received his dental degree from Baylor University and his certificate in orthodontics from Co-

lumbia University. He was base dental surgeon at Gifu Air Force Base, Japan, from 1954 to 1956. He practiced general dentistry from 1956 to
1959 in Houston and has been practicing orthodontics exclusively since 1961. Dr. Reed is active in regional. national, and international orthodontic organizations. He is past president of the SWSO. the Texas Association of Orthodontists. and the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics. As a Fellow in the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists, he is active in the European Orthodontic Society and the Bolivian Orthodontic Society. A member of the Tweed Orthodontic Foundation, he was certified in 1970 by the American Board of Orthodontics.

Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation meeting to be held Feb. 11-15, 1995 The Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation was founded in 1957 by a group of orthodontists dedicated to furthering orthodontic education and research. The current membership is international, representing many orthodontic departments of the world. This past February, the Founda-
tion's 37th annual meeting was held in St. Louis, Mo. The speakers were Peter Kesling, recipient of the 1994 Foundation Merit Award; Rolf Behrents; Wick Alexander; and Herb Klontz. The 1995 meeting will be held at Harrah's Casino Hotel in Lake Tahoe, Nev., Feb. 11-15. The speak-
