his year’s call for nominations for the Pump Industry Awards received a record response, with more than 50 nominations reflecting the breadth of pump and system engineering and innovation across the globe. The quality of nominations was also extremely high, making the choice of finalists in each category a tough one for the team of independent judges. Following a full-day of discussion, 23 finalists were selected.

The 2007 finalists Technical Innovation of the Year – sponsored by Sterling Fluid Systems Awarded for the most innovative pump, pumping system or other pump related product (new or redeveloped) with effectiveness being demonstrated via application details. • Little Giant – AD (air operated double diaphragm pump), Albin Pump AB. This new patented construction means that AODD pump users can now lower their running costs, reduce pulsation and energy consumption. Compared to traditional AODD pumps, the AD pump offers 70% lower pulsation and a reduction in energy consumption of up to 45%. • The Crostek “Intellimax” Pumpjack, Crostek Management Corporation. Pumpjack. The heavy pump rod is counterbalanced by a self-tuning gas spring, whose piston is also the armature of a wireless linear electric motor. • ITT Flygt 2600 Dewatering Pumps, ITT Flygt. Designed to meet increasingly tough performance and environmental demands, the six pumps in the 2600 Series deliver wear resistance alongside consistent, longterm performance. • SR060 vehicle refuelling pump with intelligent control, ITT Jabsco. Jabsco’s new submersible diesel refuelling pump supersedes traditional heavy sliding vane pumps. It is compact, failsafe and gives greater security against spillages and leaks. The SRA060’s hydrodynamic design is capable of pumping more than 60 lpm. • SPP “Lowest Life-Cycle Cost” Series of vertical suspended bowl pumps, SPP Pumps. Vertical Suspended Bowl Pumps offer a major benefit over more traditional centrifugal pumps as they can be mounted directly over a sump, without the necessity of complex priming systems, with considerable savings of space and expenditure.

Environmental/Energy Saving Award – sponsored by SPP Pumps Awarded for the pump product, system or service, which has made a significant contribution

to environmental issues, such as energy savings, emissions control, noise reduction or life cycle costs. • Aquaprof Residential Rainwater Harvesting System, Dab Pumps. The Aquaprof has been designed for the management and distribution of recycled rainwater for residential and light commercial applications. The main objective of the Aquaprof is to give priority to using rainwater over mains water. • The Grundfos Pumps Approach To The Environment, Grundfos Pumps. Grundfos Pumps have been putting the environment at the centre of their business agenda for many years. As well as constantly seeking to develop new more energy efficient products, they also review their existing portfolio to see where they can make improvements. • HYA-RAIN, KSB. HyaRain has been specifically developed for rainwater harvesting. The Hya-Rain system is a highly effective and environmentally friendly product, with key benefits including the reduction in demand on the overstretched water companies and in turn, savings on utility bills for the user. • Innovative Energy-Saving System Boa-Systronic For Heating Circuits, KSB. An analysis of heating systems revealed that heating circuits operate at part load 95% of their operating time.

The unique BOA-Systronic varies the volumetric flow through the circuit, according to demand, and thereby can save up to 70% of circulator pump energy consumption. • Energy-Saving Pump Installations at Derriford Hospital In Plymouth, WILO. Wilo provides high quality products, offering energy efficiency benefits, as well as technical expertise that can help you source exactly the right pumps and pumping systems for your application.

Manufacturer of the Year – sponsored by World Pumps Awarded to the pump manufacturer who has achieved recognition from contractors or final end users of pump products for their services in areas such as technical expertise and advice, customisation of special needs, clarity of all documentation, on-time delivery and after sales service. • Albin Pump AB. The Swedish company Albin Pump AB develops, manufactures and sells sealless pumps, simplifying and increasing efficiency for its customers through innovative solutions. • Grundfos Pumps. Grundfos Pumps supply pumps and pump systems for domestic, commercial building services and process industry applications, as well as being a major supplier to the water supply and treatment industries.
