The opening meeting of the session of this Branch was held in the Guildhall, Nottingham, on October 17th, 1935, Dr. J. A. Fairer occupying the chair. Twenty-one members and one guest were present. Dr. Fairer installed Dr. W. S. H. Campbell as President of the Branch for the session !935-:36, and Dr. Campbell suitably replied. On the Rroposition of Dr. Banks, seconded by Dr. Barker, a unanimous vote of thanks was accorded to Dr. Fairer, the retiring President, for valuable services rendered during his year of of~ce.
The Hon. Secretary read a letter from Dr. Kingston regretting inability to accept office on the Branch Council, and Dr. Ramage was unanimously elected to fill the vacancy. Dr. Ramage was also elected representative of the Branch on the Tuberculosis Group Committee for the session 1935-36. Dr. Campbell delivered his presidential address on " A n Outbreak ol Puerperal Fever in a Maternity Home." His paper was very interesting and highly instructive, and at its conclusion he was warmly thanked by the members. A further meeting of the Branch was held in the Guildhall, Nottingham, on November 14th, 1935, Dr. Fairer occupying the chair. Fourteen members and one guest were present. Dr. Davies opened a discussion on " The Proposed Municipal Midwifery Service." Everyone present took part in the subsequent general discussion, and at its close a vote of thanks was accorded to Dr. Davies for his paper on the proposition of Dr. Macdonald. Arising out of the discussion, the following resolution was passed unanimously and the Hon. Secretary was instructed to forward it to the Executive Secretary of the Society :--" That in the opinion of the East Midland Branch the scheme of a municipal midwifery service prepared by the Joint Council of Midwifery requires very careful discussion before it can be made a safe basis for legislation, and the Council of the Society is requested to ask all Branches to give immediate consideration to the scheme, and forward their observations and criticisms thereon to headquarters, so that the

The annual n~eeting of this Sub-Group was held on October 12th, 1935, in the Carnegie lnstitnte, Birmingham. Dr. Morris Jones, the retiring Chairman, presided. Balsillie and Young. Professor Richard Berry (Stoke Park Colony, Bristol) gave a most interesting discourse on
"Brain Structure in Relation to Social Efficiency." A vote of thanks to Professor Berry was proposed by Dr. Newsholme and seconded by Dr. Balsillie. Prior to the meeting a luncheon was held at the Three Counties Clnb, Birmingham, at which Professor Berry was the guest of honour. ANNUAL REPORT, 1934-1935. The Sub-Group held four meetings during the session, and also paid a visit to the Wincanton Factories of Messrs. Cow & Gate, Ltd. The fourth annual meeting took place at the Children's Hospital, Birmingham, on October 20th, 1934, Professor Parsons presiding. After routine business, Dr. Helen Mackay (London) held the eager attention of the meeting by an extremely interesting address on " Diet and Susceptibility to Infection." Prior to the meeting the retiring Chairman (Professor Parsons) entertained at luncheon 25 members and friends with Dr. Helen Mackay as the guest of honour. The second meeting of the year took place on November 30th, 1934, in Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham, by kind permission of Mr. Kelman, Medical Superintendent. The meeting was clinical in character, extremely interesting eases being discussed and demonstrated b y members of the hospital staff. Fourteen members attended.
